Caracas once again becomes the anti-fascist capital

By Katherin Hormigó Rubio, Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), translated from the Spanish

From January 9 to January 11, the city of Caracas, Venezuela, became the anti-fascist capital, with the land of Bolívar and Chávez receiving about 2,000 delegates from more than 100 countries to participate in the International Anti-Fascist World Festival, under the slogan "For a New World".

Cuba, represented by a delegation of 102 participants, has throughout the event raised the slogan "homeland is humanity". In addition, it has expressed its firm support for the Bolivarian Revolution and its legitimate president, Nicolás Maduro Moros, who was sworn in on January 10 before the National Assembly for the period 2025-2031.

The prominent Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto Jiménez, stressed the importance of the great battle that Venezuela is waging at this time for truth, for peace and against the rise of fascism.

"Venezuela is today what republican Spain was, democratically legitimate, and suddenly it was betrayed by Franco's troops, supported by Mussolini and Hitler. Venezuela today is that Spain attacked that they intend to destroy. They are not going to succeed, I have seen the marches of the Venezuelan people for love, peace, life, in the face of campaigns of hatred, division, infamy. This country is at the forefront of the fight against fascism," said the President of Casa de las Americas.

In an interview with the PCC he added: "A message that Cuba brings is to advocate the Network in Defense of Humanity; that the revolutionary, progressive forces, the anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist and anti-colonial resistance nuclei weave a network of contacts and a united front in its communications to confront and dismantle the lies of the enemy."

In addition, the prominent Cuban intellectual, who is also a Deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power, left a message in support of President Nicolás Maduro:

"We are here, in Venezuela, a large Cuban delegation from various sectors of society, all convinced that it is very important to support President Maduro in the face of the dirty campaign that is being carried out against him," he said.

He also stressed that: "Everything is for Venezuela as Fidel told us and we are fulfilling that here on this special day. We are sure that in the end the victory will always be for the people and for the worthy causes they defend. Long live Venezuela, Long live Bolívar, Long live Chávez, Long live Maduro and Long live our friendship forever."

The new generation of Cubans are also present at this Antifascist Festival in Caracas, among them, Fausto Ampudia Castillo, National Vice President of the University Student Federation and Daniel Alejandro Altuna Arboláez, Vice President of the Federation of High School Students.

Both strongly repudiated fascist ideas while standing in support of the just causes of Palestine and Venezuela. They denounced the blockade against Cuba and the illegitimate inclusion of the country in the spurious list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

For his part, Yasel Toledo Garnache, journalist, writer, director of the magazine El Caimán Barbudo and President of the Hermanos Saíz Association said "For us it is a pleasure to be in Venezuela living these historic days and an opportunity to share them with people from other nations. We show our support for Venezuela, its President, and it is a way of confirming that Cuba remains faithful to its ideals, those that come to us from the essence of the Cuban nation, of Martí, which is to fight for that better world where humanity is the focus."

Support for Maduro and the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela

Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboys, elected deputy for the province of Guantánamo, expressed her support for the government and the Bolivarian Revolution. "For me it is deeply symbolic to be here representing a flag, representing a people and my country: Cuba."

"As an athlete and as a deputy," she added, "I consider it very important because it also consolidates the unity between two nations that for many years have always been fraternal countries."

For Danhiz Díaz Pereira, a young Cuban attending the event, the presence of Cubans in Caracas is of great importance.

He supported the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba's position of total solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and the social project initiated by Hugo Rafael Chávez, "in support of the right of the Venezuelan people to be free and sovereign; and we also bring support for peace in the region and in the world."

The president of the Cuba-Venezuela Parliamentary Friendship Group, Yoerky Sánchez Cuellar, praised it as a privilege to be in Caracas and congratulated President Nicolás Maduro on his swearing-in.

"We Cubans support this legitimate government elected by its people and we highlight our position of comradeship and permanent solidarity with the Homeland of Bolívar and Chávez," he concluded.
