"Long live Minrex! And continue the good fight as you have always done," Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, said at the ceremony for the 65th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a pillar of revolutionary diplomacy.
On Monday, the founding date, Raúl, together with the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, led a commemoration at the Havana Convention Center, to honour this organization that in defense of truth and justice, has made the name of Cuba shine.
The event, which was also attended by other members of the Political Bureau, ministers, directors, officials and workers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, evoked the legacy of Fidel, who masterfully designed and directed Cuban foreign policy, and recalled the indelible mark of the Chancellor of Dignity, Raúl Roa García.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel spoke about the challenges that diplomats face on a daily basis, while urging them to strengthen their ideological fiber, their modesty and probity, austerity and loyalty to the working people.
He drew attention to the need to strengthen analytical capacity, to promote the study of International Law, and to understand and defend, with conviction, the principles on which the policy of the Cuban Revolution and the cause of socialism rest.
Díaz-Canel highlighted the prestige of the Caribbean island in the international arena, condemned Israel's genocide against Palestine, highlighted the countless pages written by solidarity and stated his confidence in diplomacy, based on "a meritorious and effective service record."
Never forget, he said, "that you represent a people criminally blockaded for six decades, who have been able to resist without renouncing the fight to create a future of hope for the dispossessed. And for millions of people in the world, especially those who struggle for and dream of justice and true freedom for the peoples -- which is, in short, dreaming and fighting for the best possible world -- Cuba has been and continues to be a benchmark of dignity."
Member of the Political Bureau and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, also reviewed the history of the commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, paid tribute to the martyrs of the foreign service, reiterated the active commitment to the unity and integration of Latin America and the Caribbean, and thanked the world for the global rejection of the blockade and the inclusion of Cuba in the infamous list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
He emphasized the pride of having participated "in the defense and international promotion of a cause as just as the Cuban Revolution, of being heirs of the teachings of Fidel and Raúl, of representing a dignified, sacrificing and indomitable people, and of having their respect and support. We owe ourselves to that people."
This day of celebration, which was attended by workers from the Translators and Interpreters Services Team, and professors and students from the Raúl Roa García Higher Institute of International Relations, included music by the outstanding pianist and composer Frank Fernández, and the Entrevoces choir, directed by teacher Digna Guerra.
After 65 years, the struggle for peace and sovereignty, respect for the self-determination of peoples, and unwavering loyalty to the Homeland continue to be a compass for revolutionary diplomacy.
