Communist Party of China donates 10 electric generators to Cuba

By Katherin Hormigó Rubio, translated from the Spanish

Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and head of its Economic-Productive Department, participated in the ceremony for the delivery of ten generators to the Electric Union, donated by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese Government.

These generators are intended for the sites of the Geysel Generator Set and Electric Services Company.

Mario Pedroso Caballero, general director of the Electric Union, pointed out that the most significant breakdowns of the previous year were related to generators at around 64 megawatts.

This donation is expected to help reduce breakdowns related to these components in the provinces of Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos, and contribute about 18 megawatts to the system, enough to supply some 40,000 homes.

Pedroso Caballero stressed that this technology is more robust and guarantees greater reliability in the electric supply.

Broche Lorenzo thanked the support of the Party and the Government of the Asian giant, especially President Xi Jinping, for promoting cooperation projects in the energy sector.

In addition, he explained that the years 2023 and 2024 have been very challenging for power generation due to the marked deterioration of thermoelectric plants and the intensification of the blockade, which makes it difficult to acquire spare parts and supplies for the maintenance and repair of national power plants.

Hua Xin, ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Cuba, mentioned that this donation is an example of the realization of the agreements between the leaders of both nations.
