The New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ) is condemning the recent decision by Serbia to adopt the EU's sanctions against Venezuela.

The anti-people government in Serbia has now aligned itself with the European Union by adopting the sanctions against Venezuela approved by the EU Council on 9 January 2025. This decision is made in tandem with other puppet governments that follow the imperialist policies of the EU—including those in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

It is the United States and the European Union that are truly undermining democracy and the rule of law in Venezuela, by catering to a chavist government supported by the people. Venezuela has always been a true friend of Serbia—a nation that upholds Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty—and Venezuela stood by Serbia against the disgraceful Srebrenica resolution at the United Nations.

This hypocritical and shameful decision is further highlighted by the actions of Serbia’s leadership. Notably, the President of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, attended President Nicolás Maduro’s inauguration and later declared that President Vučić is an “amigo” of the Venezuelan people.

Moreover, the Serbian government has repeatedly turned its back on Venezuela by establishing bilateral relations with the “Cooperative” Republic of Guyana—an imperialist protectorate that Venezuela claims as its own. Now, by aligning with the EU sanctions against Venezuela, the government is acting on orders from Brussels rather than on the will of the Serbian people.

The New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ) stresses that the current policy of Serbia is devoid of principles and morality. NKPJ categorically rejects this shameful decision by the pro-imperialist government and makes it clear that it does not represent the will of the Serbian people.

The Serbian people continue to regard Venezuela—and its socialist government led by Nicolás Maduro—as true friends. NKPJ will steadfastly support the socialist government in Venezuela, standing in solidarity with President Maduro and the Venezuelan people.
