Comrade Luong Cuong elected as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam



The National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam has elected Luong Cuong, a general of the People's Army of Vietnam, as the country's President for the 2021-2026 term.


Luong Cuong, is a member of the Political Bureau and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The 440 deputies of the assembly present voted unanimously in his favour.


Voice of Vietnam reports that after "being elected, President Cuong took the oath.


“Under the sacred red flag with yellow star of the Fatherland, before the National Assembly and my compatriots and voters nationwide, I Luong Cuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, hereby swear absolute loyalty to the Fatherland, the people, the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. I will strive to successfully complete the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.”


Afterwards, he delivered an inaugural address, saying “I will try my best to fulfill the duties of President according to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the tasks entrusted to me by the Party, State and People. Together with the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army, we continue to care for, build and promote the strength of great national unity. Efforts should be made to build a truly clean and strong socialist rule of law State of the people, by the people and for the people.


We will consistently implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization, diversification, proactive and active international integration, while ensuring national interests at the highest level. Vietnam is a friend, a trusted partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community."
