General Secretary of the Communist Party and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Comrade To Lam, will pay a state visit to Cuba on September 25 and 26, 2024 according to Granma, the official organ of the Communist Party of Cuba.
"During his stay, the distinguished visitor will hold official talks with the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, comrade Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, will exchange with other Cuban authorities and will carry out several activities of interest."
According to VietnamPlus he "aims to implement the foreign policy set forth at the 13th National Party Congress, reaffirming Vietnam's high regard for and desire to strengthen relations with traditional friends."
"It will demonstrate the steadfast, loyal, and exemplary solidarity of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam with their Cuban counterparts, said Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and Chairman of the committee’s Commission for External Relations, in an interview granted to the press ahead of the visit."
VietnamPlus continued "Over the nearly 65 years, the traditional solidarity, support, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba have continuously been nurtured, strengthened, and expanded across various fields. During Vietnam's resistance war for national liberation in the 1960s and 1970s, Cuba stood as a symbol and pioneer in the world movement of supporting Vietnam's just struggle for independence, giving Vietnam valuable and effective assistance."
Vietnam is now Cuba's second largest trading partner, a fact of tremendous importance to the island socialist nation under an illegal and cruel, decades long US economic embargo.
