Cuba extended its thanks to China for the willingness of its Communist Party and Government to support the island in two fundamental sectors of development: energy and food production. The gratitude of the Cuban people was expressed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, when he received Zhang Run, director general of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Foreign Ministry of the People's Republic of China at the Palace of the Revolution on Saturday.

With real friendship, the Cuban President welcomed the Chinese diplomatic official, whom he congratulated on his appointment to this important position while underlining "the high significance we attach to your visit".

His presence in Cuba "we see as part of the monitoring of the consensus that both countries have reached by the leadership of the Party and the Government of the People's Republic of China."

The Cuban President noted that this year, Cuba and China will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of their bilateral relations "which are excellent."

In this context, he noted that, in addition to these historic ties, they continue to make an important contribution "due to the sensitivity, understanding and attention that the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and President of the Republic, Xi Jinping, has given to the issue of Cuba."

In his dialogue with the senior diplomat, Diaz-Canel stressed that both parties are very committed to the realization of a shared future China-Cuba community.

He pointed to a group of joint projects being developed quickly and he took the opportunity to note that just within the last few hours the first Photovoltaic Solar Park of the country's energy program had been opened with the help of Chinese technology.

Similarly, he pointed out that high-level visits, both governmental and party have greatly aided in the materialization of joint cooperation projects of great importance for the economic and social development of the Caribbean island.

Díaz-Canel extended thanks especially for the advice provided by the Ministry of Agriculture of China in programs related to food production. He stressed the value of the exchange of experiences in the party sphere, in socialist construction, as well as the permanent coordination of a political consensus in addressing common issues in international forums.

He also thanked China for its systematic rejection of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade, as well as their denunciation of the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

The Cuban president reiterated the invitation to his counterpart Xi Jinping to "visit our country when his schedule allows, a visit that will be of great significance for the Cuban people."

Díaz-Canel expressed Cuba's admiration for China's global leadership, for the role it plays in the international sphere, as well as Cuba's unconditional support for the one-China principle and Cuba's rejection of any interference in Chinese internal affairs.

For his part, the director general of the Latin American and Caribbean Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that Xi Jinping "attaches great importance to the development of binational ties" and sent his greetings to the Cuban President and the Cuban people.

"China and Cuba are advancing at a steady pace, achieving more positive results daily," Zhang Run said.

The President of the Republic was accompanied in this meeting by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, and the Director of Bilateral Affairs of the MINREX, Carlos Miguel Perera Hernández, along with other officials of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
