The First Bharat Summit: Delivering Global Justice, held in Hyderabad, India, condemned the imposition of unilateral coercive measures against sovereign states and emphasized their violation of the principles of international law.
Organized by the Indian National Congress (INC) and the government of Telangana, this Forum was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, which laid the foundation for the Non-Aligned Movement, of which Cuba is a founding member.
The delegation of the Communist Party of Cuba was led by Central Committee member and head of the Department of International Relations, Emilio Lozada García, who, in his remarks during the closing session, condemned the terrorist attack in Kashmir and offered his sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. The opportunity was opportune to express the Cuban government's constitutionally endorsed position of repudiation and condemnation of this scourge; a position which rejects all terrorist acts, methods, and practices, in all their forms and manifestations, by whomever, against whomever, and wherever they are committed, regardless of their motivations.
In his remarks, Lozada García also emphasized the importance of continuing to promote unity and solidarity as ways to advance toward a truly just and equitable international order that guarantees sustainable development and well-being for the peoples of the South.
The Summit provided an opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with several of the attending figures. In total, more than 400 participants were present, representing approximately 100 nations.
Emilio Lozada García's Speech, translated from the Spanish:
Distinguished leaders and members of the Indian National Congress,
Dear guests,
On behalf of the Communist Party of Cuba, I thank the Indian National Congress, the Progressive International, and the government of Telangana for inviting me to this first Bharat Summit.
We extend our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those injured in the recent incident in the Kashmir region.
Cuba reaffirms its repudiation and condemnation of terrorism in its constitution. Our country has long held a position of rejecting and condemning all terrorist acts, methods, and practices, in all their forms and manifestations, by whomever, against whomever, and wherever they are committed, regardless of their motivations.
The current international landscape could not be more complex. US imperialism promotes war and genocide, imposes unilateral coercive measures, and makes blackmail, harassment, and manipulation routine practices against our nations, in violation of international law and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, at the end of his speech at the General Debate of the 78th Ordinary Session of the United Nations General Assembly, on September 19, 2023, said: "It will always be an honor to fight for justice, sharing the difficulties and challenges with the peoples of the South, who are willing to change history!"
With this firm conviction, we must continue promoting unity and solidarity as ways to advance toward a truly just and equitable international order, one that guarantees sustainable development and well-being for the peoples of the South.
In this regard, the ten Bandung Principles, adopted 70 years ago at that historic Conference and which constitute the founding principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, of which we are honored, along with India, to be a founding member, take on special relevance.
It is our responsibility to work to counter hegemonic attempts, hatred, aggression, and abuse of power against our nations.
Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people, with the support and complicity of the United States government, cannot remain unpunished. We cannot remain indifferent to the deaths of more than 51,000 people, including tens of thousands of children, women, and the elderly.
Dear guests,
For the past 65 years, the Cuban people have been subjected by the United States government to the most comprehensive, complex, and prolonged system of unilateral coercive measures ever applied against any country.
The U.S. government's economic, commercial, and financial embargo against Cuba has intensified in recent years, including the unjust inclusion of our country on a spurious and unilateral list of states allegedly sponsoring terrorism.
The challenges we Cubans face today are very difficult, but with the strength of unity, the resilience of the people, and the solidarity of the friends who have always supported us, we will emerge victorious.
Distinguished guests:
At the Millennium Summit held at the United Nations on September 6, 2000, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, stated: “Humanity must become aware of what we have been and what we can no longer be. Today, our species has acquired sufficient knowledge, ethical values, and scientific resources to advance toward a new historical stage of true justice and humanism.”
Toward this new historical stage, we must advance together. Let us unite for peace, global justice, and the well-being of our peoples in the South.
Thank you very much.
