The President of the Republic and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, announced on the X that a tribute will be held today in commemoration of the 95th anniversary of the birth of Vilma Espín Guillois (7 April 1930 – 18 June 2007).
This tribute will recognize her fundamental role in the Cuban Revolution and her tireless fight for women's rights.
Both Díaz-Canel and Roberto Morales Ojeda, Political Bureau Member and Organization Secretary of the Central Committee, will be present at the ceremony.
Morales Ojeda on Facebook:
"We remember with love, pride, and a firm commitment Vilma Espín Guillois, a courageous woman with an unbreakable soul and an immense heart. On the 95th anniversary of her birth, her example lives on, illuminating the path of the Revolution she loved so much.
Vilma was a guerrilla in the Sierra Maestra and a combatant in the plains, as well as a forger of dreams and a tireless defender of justice. Her struggle was not limited to weapons; it was also carried out through ideas and with the profound conviction that it was possible to build a better Cuba and a better world.
As the founder of the Federation of Cuban Women, she dedicated her life to the emancipation of women, the education of children, and the construction of a more just and humane society. Her warm smile and revolutionary determination became symbols of resistance and love.
Vilma is not just memory, she is presence. She is present in every achievement of Cuban women, in every right won, and in every seed of equality that continues to grow. Her legacy is a beacon and a guide, because true revolutions are made by people like her.
