Following as it does the recent visit made by To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Cuba, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, said this visit is of high significance when receiving Colonel General Trinh Van Quyet, head of the General Political Directorate of the People's Army of Vietnam on Tuesday, October 8.

Díaz-Canel noted that during To Lam's stay in Cuba, agreements were signed that reinforced the historic relations between the two parties, governments and peoples.

The Tuesday meeting was attended by the member of the Political Bureau, Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, as well as other senior leaders and officers of MINFAR.

The Cuban president reflected on the strong basis of the ties between Cuba-Vietnam, which are connected, he emphasized, with the historic ties of friendship that were forged between Ho Chi Minh and Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and to which today the new generations are giving continuity.

Díaz-Canel referred to the constant, systematic and extensive exchanges of visits that take place in both countries, by the main leaders of the Party, Parliament and the armed forces.

Cuba and Vietnam, he stressed, have points in common and support each other at the international level on many diverse issues resulting from their shared vision of socialist construction, because, he said, they both face the same enemy.

The Cuban President reflected on the important economic and commercial exchange that is taking place, while expressing his conviction that it will be expanded based on the results of the visit of Comrade President and Secretary General, To Lam.

This deepened the dialogues between the Communist Parties of Vietnam and Cuba on the construction of socialism, and the important cooperation in defense-related areas.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba told the Chief of the General Political Directorate of the People's Army of Vietnam that all these elements "are reinforced now, of course, with his visit."

He said that one of the fundamental challenges shared today by the two nations is how to transfer to the new generations, through political work, the heritage of these historical relations, which are also based on the militancy and military and patriotic traditions of the two peoples.

On behalf of the high-level delegation accompanying him on his trip to Cuba, Colonel General Trinh Van Quyet noted "the honor of being able to be in this heroic country." He said further, "we are very excited and very moved because you have dedicated your time to receive our delegation."

"I also take this opportunity," he added, "to convey to you the thanks of comrade General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, for the warm welcome that you and the leaders of Cuba gave to him and his high-level delegation during his visit in September."
