Filipp Makharadze was a stalwart Bolshevik and prolific author who held many positions and rose to be Chairman of the Presidium of Supreme Soviet of the Georgian SSR the position of Deputy Presidium Chairman of the USSR Supreme Soviet. He also directed the Institute of Marxism–Leninism. He died in 1941 at the age of 73.
