Space Will Serve People, Gagarin poster, USSR 1971 -- Daily LIFT #408
Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, was born March 9, 1934. A committed Communist and son of collective farmers he became a delegate to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR after his historic flight.
Gagarin believed firmly that space exploration and space science were meant to be for the benefit of all humanity, a sentiment we desperately need to get back to as the billionaire class like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos try to privatize it and turn the cosmos into a playground for the rich exploited for profit.
