The photo was taken by Soviet news cameraman Mikhail Ozersky. He said of it: "That day thousands of Muscovites gathered to celebrate the 19th anniversary of the October Revolution. People who seemed to have come straight from the battlefield appeared in the holiday column -- the legendary soldiers of antifascist Spain. They were given a thunderous welcome. I called that photo No Pasaran."
