Big Bill Haywood at a rally in Moscow, USSR 1923 (Haywood is at lower left) -- Daily LIFT #816
Legendary IWW leader Haywood fled the United States in 1921 after being sentenced to 20 years in jail during the anti-labour and anti-communist government persecution of anti-war activists during and after WWI. He died in the USSR in 1928 never having returned to the US. Half of his ashes were buried in the Kremlin Wall Necropolis, the other half of his Chicago near the Haymarket Martyrs' Monument.
