Under incredibly difficult conditions of imperialist sanctions and encirclement the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) officially launched the building of a massive new housing drive in the capital Pyongyang this week.
The drive is centered around the call for 50,000 new apartments to be built in the city with the Hwasong area initiative to be the first development.
All housing in the DPRK is free.
A new project for building 10 000 flats started in the capital city of Pyongyang amid the growing revolutionary enthusiasm and devoted efforts of the people across the country to celebrate the 80th birth anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong Il as a great revolutionary auspicious event.
The construction of 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area will begin under the plan for building 50 000 flats in Pyongyang City set forth at the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea and the decision made at the 4th Plenary Meeting of the Party Central Committee.
The housing construction projects undertaken by our Party one after another serve as a striking demonstration of the people-first principle and the power of strenuous execution of its Central Committee that subordinates and orients everything to bringing earlier a new world of a prosperous power where the people enjoy the highest dignity and the best happiness.
Today, filled with fresh vigour and self-confidence, we are holding a meaningful ground-breaking ceremony for building in our capital city a new street for the people, a street symbolic of an era of another transformation.
First of all, I, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and the government, would like to extend warm congratulations and greetings to the builders of the capital city and the service personnel, who are starting our struggle in the grandiose year of 2022 through this grand ground-breaking ceremony for a project to build 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area true to the decisions adopted at the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Party.
This project, one of the major tasks facing the construction sector this year, is the second of its kind for hitting the long-term goal of housing construction in Pyongyang, which our Party aspires to and which started last year; it is also the first stage of building a new, modern urban district in this area.
The long-term capital city development plan approved by our Party and the government envisages creation in this area, which is near the sacred place of the sun and adjoins September 9 Street, of splendid streets and a new administrative district with flats, numbering well over ten thousand, public buildings and welfare service facilities. This will be done within three years or so.
If the goal of building 50 000 flats in Pyongyang, including that of this gigantic project, is hit with success, our Party will have fulfilled the most important promise it made to the people and the housing problem of the citizens of our capital city will have been solved once and for all.
This is why the Party and the government is forcefully pushing ahead with the construction of 10 000 flats in Pyongyang every year even though the present conditions and circumstances are more difficult than ever before.
