Indian Communists condemn attacks on Gaza

Writer: Michael LaxerMichael Laxer

Both the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have issued statements strongly denouncing Israel's genocidal attack on Gaza.

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Strongly Protest Israel’s Genocidal Acts

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) vehemently condemns the Israeli air strikes on Gaza which have killed over 400 people, mostly women and children in a single day. By this criminal aggression, Israel has signaled it is backing out from the second phase of the ceasefire which would have brought peace and an end to hostilities.

This latest massacre comes on top of the total blockade of all supplies to Gaza – food, fuel, water and medicines – since March 2. The Trump administration is conniving with this latest aggression by Israel, which aims to flatten Gaza and starve the people out of their homeland. Israel’s military actions need to be stopped forthwith and the second phase of the ceasefire put in place. This is the demand of peace-loving people all around the world.

The Modi government must come out openly against the aggressive actions of Israel. It cannot remain silent when an entire people are being subjected to starvation and mass deaths.

The Polit Bureau calls upon its units to protest against the continuing Israeli genocide and call for an immediate ceasefire and peace settlement.

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued today (March 19, 2025) the following statement:

The Communist Party of India vehemently condemns the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza conducted on March 18, 2025, which resulted in the tragic loss of over 400 Palestinian lives, including numerous women and children.

Since the escalation of hostilities on October 7, 2023, the Palestinian death toll has surpassed 62,000, with a significant proportion being civilians. This alarming figure underscores the severity of the ongoing conflict and is recognized as genocide against the Palestinian people.

CPI calls upon the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take immediate and decisive action to halt these killings and hold Israel accountable for its actions. The persistent inaction and silence from global bodies not only encourage the aggressor but also erodes the fundamental principles of international law and human rights.

CPI expresses its profound disappointment with the Indian government's continued silence on this grave issue. India, with its historical commitment to justice and anti-colonial struggle, must not remain indifferent to the plight of the Palestinian people. We urge the Indian government to break its silence, condemn the ongoing violence, and actively support the Palestinian cause.

CPI stands in unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in their pursuit of freedom, justice, and self-determination. We call upon the people of India to raise their voices against these injustices, condemn the killings, and express their support and solidarity for Palestinian people.
