The Iraqi Communist Party is condemning Syria’s new regime for dissolving and banning both the Syrian Communist Party (Unified) and the Syrian Communist Party (Bakdash). Despite the new regime's alleged commitment to democracy and pluralism, both organizations were prohibited on January 29.

In a statement the party says it "has followed with deep concern the recent decisions announced by the new authority in Syria," saying further that the "decision contradicts the promises announced by the [transitional government], following the collapse and fall of the former regime, to open up to all segments of the Syrian people and call for national dialogue and the participation of all in political life without exclusion."

Calling the actions "unjust" they are demanding the repeal of the ban as well as "the guarantee of democratic freedoms, including freedom of organization and political action," and for the new regime to allow "all segments of the people to build a new Syria according to their free will" while preserving the country's "unity, independence and national sovereignty."
