The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) reports that a delegation of the KKE, headed by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the party, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, visited Cuba from July 10 to 15, at the invitation of the Communist Party of Cuba:

The delegation had the opportunity to follow a rich programme of important meetings, contacts and visits, which were particularly enlightening on the struggle of the Cuban people, the Communist Party of Cuba and the leadership of the country for the prosperity and sovereignty of the people, against the intensifying attack of imperialism led by the USA.

The delegation of the KKE also included Giorgos Marinos, member of the PB of the CC and MP, Lefteris Nikolaou - Alavanos, MEP, Aris Evangelidis, member of the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE, and Giorgos Eltahir, member of the Editorial Board of “Rizospastis”.

During the visit, the Party delegation met with Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the PB and Organizing Secretary of the CC of the CP of Cuba, Emilio Lozada García, member of the CC and Head of the International Relations Section, Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, Secretary General of the Confederation of Cuban Workers (CTC) and member of the PB of the CC, Ana María Mari Machado, Vice President of the National Assembly of People’s Power (the Cuban Parliament) and member of the CC, Anayansi Rodríguez, Deputy Minister Of Foreign Affairs, Mirthia Julia Brossard Oris, head of the International Relations Section of the Union of Young Communists of Cuba (UJC) and Fernando González Llort, President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship of Peoples (ICAP).

It also paid interesting visits to the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CGIB), the Fidel Castro Ruz Centre and the state-owned socialist electronics industry “Camilo Cienfuegos”.

On the occasion of its visit, the delegation of the KKE expressed its solidarity with Cuba and its people, against the criminal blockade of the country by the United States, which has been in place since 1960 and has been reinforced in recent years by hundreds of new measures adopted under the Trump presidency and maintained by the Biden administration, as well as against the inclusion of Cuba in Washington’s unacceptable list of alleged “state sponsors of terrorism" (again, the inclusion of Cuba in the notorious list was made by the Trump administration in 2021 and maintained by the Biden administration).

Through the meetings, the delegation was informed in detail about the reality in the country, about the great difficulties caused by this intensifying imperialist aggression against Cuba by US measures, but also by the substantial support of this aggression by the EU and the European Parliament, which from time to time make anti-communist denunciations and interventions against the Cuban leadership and the Communist Party of Cuba.

With this rich material from the meetings and contacts in Cuba, the KKE will further intensify the multifaceted initiatives of solidarity with Cuba in the Greek Parliament, in the European Parliament and, above all, among the Greek people and youth.

Already, at the end of May, the entire Parliamentary Group of the KKE, headed by the GS of the CC of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, as well as the Party’s MEPs Kostas Papadakis and Lefteris Nikolaou - Alavanos sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, urging the Greek government to support the just demand for the immediate removal of Cuba from the US State Department’s list of “state sponsors of terrorism”, and the overall lifting of all unacceptable blockade measures against Cuba. A similar intervention was made by the MEPs of the KKE in June.

These interventions will continue in the Greek Parliament, in the new European Parliament, in the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba, as well as with the Greek government, which at various times openly aligns itself with the imperialist aggression against Cuba, as it did in July 2021, when it was one of only 9 EU countries (out of 27) to co-sign a joint statement by the US State Department against the Cuban government, while the latter at the time was taking measures in response to the US-led provocative plan that had unfolded in the country a few days earlier.

At the same time, the KKE and KNE will develop with even greater intensity initiatives of internationalist solidarity with Cuba within the Greek people and youth, with Party events, with the contribution of communists to the development of multiform actions within the workers’–people’s movement and mass organizations of the youth, maximizing the pressure on the governments and expressing in practice that Cuba is not alone, that no people fighting against imperialism is alone.
