KKE: Greece must be immediately disengaged from the imperialist war in Ukraine

With the alarming escalation of the imperialist war in Ukraine by the recent decision of the United States to permit its missiles to be used to strike targets deep in Russia, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) is calling for the Greek government to immediately end the country's involvement in the conflict.

Following the US and NATO permission for the Zelensky regime to use NATO long-range missiles against Russia and Russia's subsequent updating of its Nuclear Doctrine to "use nuclear weapons in case it or its ally is attacked with non-nuclear weapons", it is obvious that the imperialist war in Ukraine between NATO and Russia has reached a new level of escalation and possible generalisation with unforeseen consequences for the peoples.

Added to this are statements by representatives of the Russian leadership that the use of long-range weapons against it will be considered a NATO attack and will result in retaliation, including the bombing of NATO infrastructure wherever it is located.

In these conditions, the demand for Greece's disengagement from the imperialist war in Ukraine becomes immediate, urgent and vital. The New Democracy government, which with the agreement and support of the other Euro-Atlantic parties has turned the country into a US-NATO base, cannot turn a blind eye to the real threat posed to the Greek people. It bears historical responsibility. It has no legitimacy to drag the people and the country into the massacre of war in order to serve the commitments to NATO and the interests of sections of capital that expect new large profits from war and the destruction it causes.

The KKE continues the struggle and will take further initiatives to inform the people about these developments, but also to make the demand for Greece's exit from the imperialist wars, for the cessation of all military aid to the Zelensky regime and for the closure of the US-NATO bases in Greece, which turn the country into a target of retaliation, a matter off concern for the workers, the people and the youth as a whole.
