The Marxist–Leninist Party of Germany has unveiled a statue of Karl Marx to stand next to a statue of Lenin they erected in Gelsenkirchen, Germany in 2020.
They did so on Saturday, August 27 to mark their 40th anniversary as a party.
The artist Rainer Günther was there along with over 1,500 people. The crowd listened to several speeches and sang the Internationale.
Gabi Fechtner, the chairwoman of the MLPD said that "Marx, as an ardent revolutionary, would feel very comfortable at Lenin's side!"
She also condemned the tearing down of monuments to the Red Army in many countries since the war in Ukraine saying that "Putin is a contradiction to socialism, Stalin, and Lenin. So these monuments should remain in place.”
The statue was funded through donations and Marx is holding a copy of Das Kapital.
