Image via X

On November 20, the workers of Greece took to the streets in a massive general strike. Among other services it halted the ports and public and private transportation across the nation. Many thousands of workers marched in Athens, with significant demonstrations also occurring in Thessaloniki and other areas. The All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) reports rallies in 70 cities.

The strike, under slogans like "Money for Wages, Health, Education - Out of the war's slaughterhouses", was called to protest against the rising cost of living, and to demand better wages and working conditions. There is also opposition to Greek military funding and involvement in imperialist wars. It reflects widespread public discontent with the current economic policies of the right wing New Democracy government.
