This underscores Sheinbaum's commitment to Palestinian human rights. The recognition is particularly symbolic given that Sheinbaum is Mexico's first President of Jewish heritage.
"We condemn the aggression being experienced and we believe that the Palestinian state must be recognized in all its fullness," she said.
In May 2024, Mexico joined South Africa's case before the International Court of Justice charging Israel with genocide.
