The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) reports that six of its members have been detained for participating in the recent protests in the country.
The TKP Central Committee has issued the following statement:
“Our party members, who were detained yesterday, first announced to be released today, and then referred to the court with a last minute change of decision with a request for pre-trial detention, were arrested.
Head of TKP Provincial Organisation in İstanbul and Party Council Member Ahmet Dincel and Party Council Member Arda Hacıyusufoğlu are among those arrested.
We address the government: It is clear that you are trying to intimidate all of us. It is also clear that you are so desperate. Neither our people nor our Party will bow down.
The struggle will continue to grow.”
TKP organizations in three major metropolitan cities declared that they would take to the streets tonight with even greater strength to respond to these unjust arrests. They called on all citizens who refuse to bow down to join the protests.
TKP Central Committee expresses its sincere gratitude to all fraternal parties that have shown solidarity with our Party and arrested members by sending and publishing messages.
