Syrian regime forces fire on resistance fighters -- image via news video screenshot
The New Communist Party of the Netherlands (NCPN) has issued a statement condemning the violence in Syria
International Commission of the CC of the NCPN:
The NCPN expresses its solidarity with the people of Syria, in particular with the oppressed minorities, in response to the horrific crimes committed by the reactionary Syrian regime.
Videos of terrible war crimes in Latakia have dominated the media over the past week. Women, men and children of all ages were forced at gunpoint to perform humiliating acts, only to be executed afterwards because of their Alawite affiliation. Despite various interviews with the reactionary president Ahmed al-Sharaa by Western media that his government is committed to tolerance and respect for so-called ‘liberal democracy’.
Now we see once again the true character of these supposedly ‘moderate rebels’, now that more than 1000 citizens belonging to the Alawite population group have been killed by these bloodthirsty imperialist lackeys. We remind you that the Dutch bourgeoisie also has a hand in whitewashing the jihadist groups that are now in power in Syria by consistently depicting them as moderate and freedom fighters. The US-EU-NATO bloc, which is constantly pushing for the destabilisation of Syria, bears a great responsibility for these new crimes.
Syria is being divided along ethnic, religious and identity lines in the interest of imperialism and their local accomplices. The Syrian working class and other oppressed sections of the population are being played off against each other based on these false divisions in order to keep their real enemy, imperialism and the Syrian capitalists, out of the picture. A divided and balkanised state also makes it easier for imperialism and its accomplices to control raw materials, energy sources, transport routes, etc.
It should be noted that while the massacres against the Alawite minority are ongoing, the Syrian regime is forming cynical ‘alliances’ with the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). At the same time, the murderous Israeli state, which occupies Syrian territory, can continue to violently expand its territory and control in the region, without any regard for national borders or human lives.
The NCPN emphasises that only an end to this barbaric capitalist system, which sets people against each other based on ethnicity and religion, can offer a solution for all peoples to face a peaceful and prosperous future.
