The Communist Party of Switzerland reports that the ‘No to NATO - Yes to Peace’ demonstration called for March 15, 2025 in Bellinzona, went ahead despite heavy rain and united hundreds of people concerned about the risks of world war and opposed to the Swiss Confederation's "devious rapprochement to NATO and the EU, now increasingly anti-democratic and engaged in a mad arms race."
In particular, the marchers rejected the proposal by the General Staff of the Swiss army to "send Swiss soldiers to the Ukraine to be killed in a war that does not concern Switzerland." On the contrary, the protestors reiterated the need to keep Switzerland a strictly neutral country, refusing to take part in NATO-controlled military missions abroad.
"The Communist Party is proud to have promoted this first street demonstration in favour of Neutrality and Peace, which had a national echo: delegations also arrived in Bellinzona from other cantons, such as the Party of Labour Basel (PdA Basel) and the Swiss Movement for Peace (MSP/SFB) from Zurich and Geneva. From Italy, geopolitical analyst Stefano Orsi was also present in the square."
According to the party the march in Bellinzona was just the tip of the iceberg: "popular discontent is in fact growing despite the asphyxiating bellicose and Eurocentric propaganda and despite the hatred towards those who express opinions aimed at a cease-fire in a war now lost by NATO against Russia, which is tragically being fought to the last Ukrainian."
