At the iconic Plaza of the Revolution Mariana Grajales Coello, more than 50,000 residents of Guantanamo, Cuba rallied in an Anti-Imperialist Open Tribune "Trinchera de Honor" denouncing the interventionist policy of the government of the United States, the cruel economic and financial blockade against the country, and the illegal naval base located in the territory of Guantánamo.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the PCC Central Committee, Roberto Morales Ojeda; the First Secretary of the PCC in the province of Guantánamo, Yoel Pérez García; and the governor of the province, Alis Azahares Torreblanca were all present.

The people of Guantanamo rallying know there are many reasons to raise the flag and join in at the square. Miladys Llosa Preval, who lost a brother to terrorism, spoke on behalf of the relatives of the victims of terrorist actions against Cuba, and defended the unwavering will of the people of Guantanamo, who despite the adverse times, she said will not hand over the greatest treasure that is their sovereignty.

Laura Campello, a youth serving in the Border Brigade and a future journalism student, spoke on behalf of young people doing their military service in their units, saying that she and her classmates are taking the right path fulfilling the sacred duty of defending the Homeland against the territory illegally occupied by the enemy in Guantanamo.

On behalf of the people of Guantanamo and the people of Cuba in general, the First Secretary of the provincial committee of the Party in Guantánamo, Yoel Pérez García, forcefully denounced the Donald Trump administration for what is happening at that Naval Base and its crazy idea of making it a prison for migrants.

Pérez García noted the price that the people has had to pay to maintain their sovereignty and dignity. "The blockade is designed to kill, to create ungovernability. In defiance of all adversities we will continue to build the socialist project," he said.

After the rally Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and others toured the area to see progress and get feedback from local residents and officials which you can read about here: At Guantánamo: Unity, Resistance and Victory | Communist Party of Cuba
