The XIX del Congreso Internacional Pedagogía 2025 under the slogan "For the Unity of Educators" began Monday in Havana, with delegates from 32 countries, including a hundred from Cuba, in attendance.
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, was present at the event in the capital's Convention Center, along with the delegates and guests from countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, Asia and the United States.

Also present was the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister of the Republic, Manuel Marrero Cruz; the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister, Eduardo Martínez Díaz; the Minister of Education, Naima Trujillo Barreto, and heads of other ministries.
The Pedagogy 2025 event will be held from February 10 to 13 and was first held in 1986. Cuba's Minister of Education, Naima Trujillo, referred to its roots and history in her inaugural speech, which developed the theme "Education in sustainable human development: challenges, options and responses, from commitment to action".
The educational feats of the Revolution; Cuba's commitment to the education of children, adolescents and young people; the need for dialogue and unity in this key social sector; and the role that teachers should play were highlighted in her speech.
"The destiny of humanity is decided in our hands," the Cuban minister told educators from around the world.
She also added that research, redesign and consolidation of past results are what motivated the Third Improvement of the National Education System, which` promotes and sustains the formation of a critical citizen, who identifies with their nation and with the preservation of peace.

“We need students who attend school to be able to understand the world, to position themselves as good citizens. They need them to be able interpret their time and destiny, but framed by their own aspirations, and they need to be able to understand history,” said Trujillo Barreto.
“Learning is a human process and nothing can replace that in terms of personal interaction, educational guidance, and individualized attention.”
Therefore, she stressed, attention to and care in the initial and ongoing training of teachers as an indispensable human resource within educational systems is essential.
The inaugural session of Pedagogy 2025 brought together music, dance and poetry, in a beautiful day of tribute to one of the noblest professions in the world: that of educating, teaching and training.
At the end of the session, Sergio Osorio, a 6th. Elementary School student, read a letter addressed to the President of the United States calling for peace and justice in the world, especially for the children of Palestine.
After the first day of Pedagogy 2025, President Díaz-Canel, accompanied by Manuel Marrero Cruz, launched an exhibition of relevant projects in Cuban education. The Cuban president met and had exchanges with visitors from all the provinces of the country and around the world.
Under the general theme "Education, Science and Innovation for Sustainable Human Development", the event, organized every two years by the Cuban Education Ministry, promotes unity among teaching professionals and the alignment of global policies for the achievement of quality education.
