The Communist Party of Sri Lanka (CPSL) fiercely denounces the rapidly escalating US military presence in the western Indian Ocean, particularly the illegal occupation and militarisation of Diego Garcia.

Recent satellite images expose a massive deployment of B-2 Spirit stealth bombers, C-17 cargo planes, and aerial refuelling tankers. This is clear proof that US imperialism is preparing for another wave of aggression in the Middle East, targeting Iran and Yemen.

Diego Garcia, a stolen territory forcibly seized by Britain and leased to the US, has long served as a launchpad for war crimes—from the illegal abduction and torture of civilians (disguised by the euphemism “extraordinary rendition”), the illegal invasions of Afghanistan (2001) and Iraq (2003) to today’s brutal bombing campaigns against Yemen.

The US is now expanding its murderous operations, conducting up to 60 airstrikes per day on Yemeni cities like Sanaa, Saada, and Hodeidah, slaughtering civilians and worsening the genocidal humanitarian crisis inflicted by US-backed Saudi aggression.

Meanwhile, warmonger Donald Trump has openly threatened Iran, warning of “bad, bad things”—a clear signal that the stealth bombers on Diego Garcia are primed for strikes against Iranian soil.

This reckless escalation risks plunging the entire region into wider war, with catastrophic consequences for millions already suffering under US-led imperialism, blockade, and occupation.

Diego Garcia: A Crime Against Humanity

The Chagos Archipelago, including Diego Garcia, is illegally occupied by Britain under the fraudulent "British Indian Ocean Territory" (BIOT).

The Chagossian people were violently expelled—all to make way for a US military base built on stolen land. Sri Lanka, less than 2,000 km away, faces direct threats from this imperialist outpost.

In 1974, Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike rightly condemned the base as a betrayal of the Indian Ocean Peace Zone proposal. Today, history proves her correct—Diego Garcia has been a tool of US aggression, destabilising the region and sabotaging peace.

The Communist Party of Sri Lanka Calls on the Government to:

Demand the immediate withdrawal of all US warplanes from Diego Garcia!

Ban all US military aircraft and warships from Sri Lankan ports and airspace until the base is dismantled!

Revive the Indian Ocean Peace Zone proposal at the UN, mobilising global opposition to US militarisation!

The time for silence is over. Sri Lanka must stand against US imperialism and fight for a free, demilitarised Indian Ocean—before Washington’s war machine brings more death and destruction to our region.

US OUT OF DIEGO GARCIA!

END THE ILLEGAL OCCUPATION!

NO TO IMPERIALIST WAR!
