São Paulo Forum: Resolution of Solidarity with Cuba

The XXVII Meeting of the leftist and anti-imperialist São Paulo Forum (FSP) was held in the city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras from June 27 to 29.

In addition to its important final statement (which you can read here: Final Declaration of the XXVII Meeting of the São Paulo Forum (theleftchapter.com) ) the forum adopted a number of other resolutions including this one on Cuba which we have translated from the Spanish:

The political parties and movements of the São Paulo Forum (FSP) gathered in Tegucigalpa, on the occasion of the celebration of their XXVII Meeting, adopt the following resolution of solidarity with Cuba:

Given the constant attempts of the United States government to undermine the Cuban Revolution and manipulate the reality of its situation to destabilize it:

We agreed to:

  1. Demand the unconditional lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade, which has intensified in an unprecedented manner in the last 5 years.

  2. Demand the immediate exclusion of Cuba from the State Department's unilateral and spurious list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism.

  3. Demand the return of the territory illegally occupied by the United States at the Guantánamo Naval Base 121 years ago, in flagrant violation of international law and the sovereignty of Cuba.

  4. Condemn the media and subversion campaigns, supported by the United States government, to manipulate the complex economic situation that the country is experiencing, due to the financial persecution imposed by that very imperial government itself.

  5. Defend the inalienable right of the Cuban people to self-determination and the construction of their socialist, prosperous and sustainable system, without external interference.

  6. Reiterate support for the Communist Party of Cuba, the government and the Cuban people in their firm conviction of building socialism, despite the constant aggressiveness of imperialism.

  7. Highlight Cuba's history of solidarity and its contribution, in various countries and territories of the world, in areas of importance such as health and education.

  8. Promote, systematically, initiatives to support the Cuban people and condemn the aggressiveness of the United States government.

  9. Recognize Cuba's unrestricted will to defend unity, integration, social justice, cooperation and peace for the well-being of the people of Latin America and the Caribbean.

"To be an internationalist is to pay off our own debt to humanity. He who is not capable of fighting for others will never be capable enough of fighting for himself . " These words from Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro remain valid today and provide us with the necessary impetus to continue supporting and defending the Cuban Revolution and the Communist Party of Cuba.
