As Vietnam Plus reports, the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) hosted a ceremony in Havana on the evening of February 12 to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - 2025).
The event was attended by First Secretary of the PCC Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; Politburo member and President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez; Politburo member and Prime Minister of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz; Politburo member, permanent member of the Secretariat of the PCC Central Committee, and head of the committee’s Organisation Commission Roberto Morales Ojeda; along with representatives from Cuban socio-political organisations and the Vietnamese community in Cuba. It was also attended by Le Quang Long, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Cuba.
Roberto Morales Ojeda at the event which we have translated from the Spanish:
Dear Comrade Le Quang Long, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Cuba,
Dear colleagues, friends,
Today we gather to celebrate a momentous milestone in the history of the struggle for justice, freedom and peoples' sovereignty: the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
This is an occasion to reflect on the historic ties that unite Vietnam and Cuba, two nations united by common ideals and a shared struggle.
The Communist Party of Vietnam, founded on February 3, 1930, under the leadership of Comrade Ho Chi Minh, has been a beacon in guiding the Vietnamese people in their struggle against colonialism, imperialism and for the construction of a socialist society.
Since its inception, the Party has embodied the dreams and aspirations of a people determined to be masters of their destiny, as evidenced by the victory in the War of Resistance against French colonialism, the epic struggle against U.S. intervention, the reunification of the country in 1975, and the establishment of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Its foundation was a historic turning point for the struggle of the working-peasant class, the history of the Vietnamese National Movement and the grouping of the National and Democratic Forces.
The Party, taking into account the colonial and semi-feudal society existing in 1930, focused its program so that the bourgeois-democratic revolution, led by the peasant working class, would advance towards the socialist revolution, skipping the stage of capitalist development.
Ho Chi Minh played a decisive role in the emergence of the Party; He was its architect, guide and promoter of unity, a world-class leader who knew how to lead the Vietnamese revolutionary process in its most complex and difficult stages.
The Communist Party of Vietnam was the driving force behind profound economic transformations with the Renewal process initiated in 1986, which have turned that sister country into one of the most dynamic economies in the world.
In their congratulatory message to comrade To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam for this 95th anniversary, the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and the First Secretary of our Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, highlighted, and I quote: "The revolutionary practice of the Communist Party of Vietnam and, especially, the policy of Renewal, implemented since 1986, has been essential in the socialist construction in Vietnam and today constitutes a reference for the international communist movement". End quote.
The Party's leadership rose with the impetus of the Renewal. It won the recognition of the people and not only of the communist militants, because with the transformation of the country it contributed to reducing poverty, from almost 80 percent in the nineties of the last century, to less than three percent today, thus fulfilling Ho Chi Minh's desire to achieve a country ten times more beautiful.
Vietnam has become, from one of the poorest nations, one of the 35 largest economies in the world, making true the words of Ho Chi Minh and I quote: "only when the Party is strong can the revolution succeed".
As we enter a new era, against the backdrop of a profound restructuring process and ahead of its 14th Congress early next year, the Party continues to guide the nation towards digital transformation, innovation and sustainable development, building a strong and prosperous Vietnam.
We must recognize the work of the Communist Party of Vietnam and its closeness to the problems of the people, transparency, and willingness to transform everything that needs to be changed in order to create a more developed society with a higher standard of living.
Comrades:
Cuban revolutionaries are proud of the successes achieved in these 95 years by the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, led by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, our peoples have cemented an unbreakable friendship, based on mutual respect, cooperation and support in the most difficult moments. Fidel summed it up in his speech on January 2, 1966 with a phrase that was engraved in the memory of both nations: "For Vietnam, we are willing to give even our own blood."
This would be followed by the historic meeting held, in October of that same year, between Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and the beloved Ho Chi Minh.
This support materialized at crucial moments. During the Vietnam War, Cuba strongly condemned imperialist aggression and provided moral and material support to that noble and heroic people. In turn; Vietnam has been a firm defender of the Cuban Revolution, denouncing the intensified blockade imposed on us by the U.S. government, while mitigating its impact with solidarity aid and cooperation projects.
When reference is made to Cuba and Vietnam, we are unquestionably talking about sister nations that have had a historic bond of friendship, cemented since December 2, 1960, when diplomatic relations were established between the two peoples.
Fidel Castro Ruz, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, became the only head of state to tour the newly liberated zone of the South. On that momentous visit he said: "We arrive in this heroic land with great admiration for the Vietnamese people and we will leave with even greater admiration."
Our countries maintain a high patriotic commitment and we share the determination to advance in the construction of socialism, in accordance with the concrete conditions of each nation.
A fluid political dialogue has developed in recent years at all levels and in different sectors. Of special relevance have been the consensuses reached in the exchanges between the First Secretary and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, comrade To Lam.
Inter-party links have been deepened through collaboration between central and provincial level structures, as well as between youth, trade union and women's organizations in both countries.
Our Party and Government attach special importance to the collaborative projects, which we implemented with Vietnamese support, to increase the production of rice, coffee, corn and aquaculture, all of which have a high impact on the country.
This year we will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and the 80th anniversary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Both Parties will also hold the 7th Theoretical Seminar and the 2nd Scientific Conference "Fidel Castro and Ho Chi Minh: Vision of the Revolution", on the occasion of the 135th Anniversary of the Birth of President Ho Chi Minh.
We Cubans have suffered war, subversion, sabotage, assassination attempts, slander, as well as shortages as a result of the blockade that constitutes the main obstacle to our development. And as if that were not enough, although nothing surprises us, U.S. President Donald Trump has been attacking Cuba since the first day of his term and without any pretext as we have seen in recent weeks, in the face of which the anti-imperialism and the heroism of our people grow.
Dear Vietnamese comrades, guests, compatriots,
We can confirm that the legacies of Ho Chi Minh and Fidel will have certain continuity in the current and future generations of Cubans and Vietnamese, under the leadership of the Communist Parties of both countries. Cuba in the heart of Vietnam and Vietnam in the heart of Cuba. That has always been a certainty and will continue to be so.
I take advantage of this moment of enormous symbolism to reiterate to our Vietnamese comrades, on behalf of the Cuban people, Party and Government, our deepest gratitude for the solidarity displayed in difficult times and their support for the struggle against the blockade and its effects.
The 95th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam is an occasion to look back with pride, but also to project ourselves into the future with determination. The challenges we face are great, but history has taught us that, together, people can overcome any obstacle.
May the example of Vietnam and Cuba and the guidance of their Parties inspire new generations to fight for a more just, equitable and humane world.
Long live the Communist Party of Vietnam!
Long live the enduring comradeship between the peoples of Cuba and Vietnam!
Long live Fidel and Ho Chi Minh!
Cuba and Vietnam, United Will Win!
