Lautaro Carmona Soto and Luong Cuong
President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Luong Cuong, met with the president of the Communist Party of Chile Lautaro Carmona Soto in Santiago on Sunday (November 10) as part of his ongoing official visit to Chile.
Vietnamese media reports that Cuong thanked the Communist Party of Chile, and other Chilean left-wing, progressive and peace-loving forces for their "enduring support and solidarity" with Vietnam during the country's "past struggle for national independence and reunification and in its ongoing efforts for national development under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam."
He also thanked Carmona personally "who in the 1970s actively participated in anti-war movements and supported the Vietnamese people, and acknowledged Carmona’s significant contributions to fostering relations between the two Parties and the two peoples."
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam sent his regards as well and invited to Carmona Soto to visit Vietnam. To Lam "expressed his confidence that as a member of Chile’s ruling coalition, the Communist Party of Chile will actively contribute to the Chilean left-wing government’s success, especially in advancing proactive foreign policies and international cooperation".
For his part, Carmona Soto spoke of how "the Communist Party of Chile has learned from Vietnam's experience in the struggle for national liberation and now wants to learn from Vietnam's development model".
Cuong also met with president of the Socialist Party of Chile Paulina Vodanovic.
